Kathleen Gavin is head of the Skills Planning and Enterprise Engagement Unit in the Department of Education and Skills. The Unit which was established in 2016 gives a dedicated focus to enterprise engagement and enhanced co-ordination of responses to skills needs of enterprise across the different sectors of education and training. To date it has overseen the development of 9 Regional Skills Fora and the establishment of the National Skills Council. In addition Kathleen is responsible for monitoring the implementation of Irelands National Skills Strategy 2025.
Having worked in education for most of her career Kathleen took ten years out of the Public Service to work as CEO of the Irish Wheelchair Association (IWA). Named as one of Irelands top 1000 companies and with over 2,500 staff, working in IWA provided an opportunity to expand her experience into the world of business. Kathleen successfully led IWA through a period of development and growth for the Association and also notable achievements including the coveted National Q mark award for the Best Not for Profit Company in Ireland for Quality Management Systems in 2014.
As well as the Expert Group on Future Skills needs Kathleen is also a member of a number of cross Government Departmental committees.
